GALS! is a crazy series about Ran and her friends, who are
fairly regular junior high students. Well, I guess that would depend on your
definition of "regular." Ran and her best friend Miyu are part
of a huge trend called "Gals." What qualifies someone to be a Gal is
being very trendy. So
this anime/ manga is filled with lots of cute clothes, long nails, and stylish
hairdos. Mainly the plotline follows Ran (who declares herself the queen of all
Gals) and the world around her. She becomes friends with Aya, the smartest girl
in her class, by saving her from selling her body. Some Gals are rumored to sell
their body and do escort services, but Ran and her friends aren't that type.
Ran also meets two guys named Otohata Rei and Asou Yuuya, respectively
the #1 and #2 guys in the area, according to a very popular teen idol magazine.
Aya immediately gets a crush on Rei, and they start going out. Meanwhile, Yuuya
gets a huge crush on Ran, but she's so dense that she doesn't pick up on it in
the least. Ran eventually does get a boyfriend (one other than Rei or Yuuya, who
appears later on), but she doesn't know if she really loves him or not. She
refuses to let herself be kissed before she truly feels that her feelings about
the person are strong and true. Ran is a girl with a high
sense of self-confidence and dignity, and yet isn't very serious about her life.
Her family consists of all policemen, but she refuses to be one, preferring
to live her life in the present and have fun doing so.
GALS! is the story of Ran as she grows up and learns more
about herself as well as all the new friends that she's made. If you liked the
anime/ manga known as Kodocha, or you liked the hyper-ness and craziness that
came with it, then GALS! is perfect for you.
